Revit Users have had this command for many years, but a recent introduction into AutoCAD 2012 is the Nudge command!  This will be a nice command to show your colleagues in the office when they first sit at a 2012 enabled desktop or in a “new features” demonstration to those in your office.

What Nudge allows is the ability to move an object or multiple objects using the CTRL + Arrow Keys on the Keyboard.   So if you just need to move something “a bit”, nudge can work quickly and easily.  In testing this command I quickly found a good use for it, modeling in 3D.   Using the Nudge tool in 3D (a place where the normal Move commands may struggle) I was quickly able to move my mass straight up, then over, without ever typing in a command!  Technically this can also be done by holding/dragging an object using your mouse and UCS,  but using your Keyboard gives it a more “controlled” feel particularly for less experienced users.  In related programs (such as AutoCAD Architecture or Civil 3D) uses will range from the ability to “nudge” walls to tweak floor plans to “nudging” site objects to new locations.
