AutoCAD 2020 Block Performance Hotfix

With the latest version of AutoCAD 2020, a new Block pallette gives new functionality in organizing, loading and placing blocks in your drawing.

However, when opening drawings containing a large number of blocks, there is a definite slowdown while the drawing is organized to catalog these new blocks. To alleviate some of the delays, Autodesk has issued a Hotfix for AutoCAD 2020.

AutoCAD Alternate Text Editor

Did you know there was an alternate way to edit your MTEXT objects without using the internal text editor?

For the greatest control over the appearance and formatting of your MTEXT objects, you can use an alternate text editing application such as Windows Notepad or Notepad++ to edit your text, applying formatting codes to your edits, and importing the resulting text back into AutoCAD.

Autodesk provides many formatting codes to control the attributes of your text including height, width, color, alignment, underline, font and more.

Construction Cost Management Module added to BIM 360 Platform

The ability to track costs using real time accurate data, identify issues and share them with the project team is fundamental to delivering a project on time and within budget.

Autodesk has added a powerful new construction cost management module as an add-on subscription to BIM 360 Build.  Within this module, customers can track and visualize costs and their impact on the project budget in real-time, providing a clear picture of the project financial health.

Creating a subassembly from a polyline in Autodesk Civil 3D

Corridor modeling is a powerful tool for creating simple or complex road and other linear 3D design models.  One key to its versatility is the use of custom subassembly parts to model non-standard components of the corridor.

In the video below, Seiler Design Solutions will show you how to create a simple corridor subassembly from a polyline and add codes to the various points, links and shapes that get created.

AutoCAD Web App

As part of your AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, and AEC Collection subscriptions, you get access to the AutoCAD Web App.

Edit, create, and view CAD drawings in a web browser on any computer.

Civil 3D and Infraworks 2020 New Features

Autodesk Infraworks 2020 and Autodesk Civil 3D 2020 were recently both released, and you may download the latest versions from your Autodesk Account Portal at https://manage.autodesk.com.

Civil 3D Surface Watershed Analysis

In video below, Seiler Design Solutions will show you how to display your Civil 3D surface as a Watershed Analysis style. The method of setting up your style will be described, along with some of the other options involved.

Once the Watersheds have been displayed, you will be shown how they can be used in conjunction with the Flow Path tool and the creation of Catchment areas that can be exported to Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis for further use in drainage design.

Fixing an Autodesk Batch Save Utility script error when using Autolisp

Last week I introduced the Autodesk Batch Save Utility which installs as part of Civil 3D 2019.  I am hoping many of you have given it a try in an effort to perhaps clean your older drawings.

I did, however, discover an possible error you may receive using one of the sample scripts, and I would like to address how to fix it, and maybe give you an insight into creating your own scripts for your use.

Autodesk Batch Save Utility

Included in Autodesk Civil 3D 2019 is the Autodesk Batch Save Utility

You can use the Autodesk Batch Save Utility to open and save multiple drawing and template files at once to a specified version of Autodesk Civil 3D.

You can also use the Autodesk Batch Save Utility to run custom scripts as part of the batch operation. For example, you can run a script to perform a series of commands such as -PURGE and AUDIT on multiple drawings.

Autodesk Civil Engineering Data Translator available for download

Autodesk has released their newest Civil Engineering Data Translator for Civil 3D 2016-2019.  Unlike previous versions, this one is now a stand-alone program instead of an additional toolset within Civil 3D.

The Civil Engineering Data Translator allows customers to translate data back and forth between Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Geopak or InRoads software. The data is limited to geometry COGO points and alignments and surface data.

Users will need to be signed in with their Autodesk account to use the software.
