COGO Point Ground/Grid Coordinate Transformation in Civil 3D

Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D has the ability to transform COGO points grid to ground conversion as well as transforming points from a local project coordinate system to a standard projected coordinate system with a few simple steps.  The video linked below is a quick demonstration of the process, along with some tips on how to display and use this information via COGO point labels and exported text files for re-importation into the drawing or for using with other applications.

CREATING PRELIMINARY CIVIL 3D SURFACE FROM DEM DATA

Have you ever needed some preliminary surface data for a conceptual design and you haven't had the opportunity to get the field crews out to start picking up topo?

In this video, I will go through the process of downloading a binary DEM file from the National Map and bring it into a surface in Civil 3D that I can use for analysis of a future project. Civil 3D 2017 - Backwards Incompatibility

In the previous blog, we covered the great new features of Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017.  One of the main points was that unlike Civil 3D 2013-2016, the newest version of Civil 3D is NOT backwards compatible.

It still uses the 2013 drawing format, what's the difference?

While it is true that Civil 3D 2017 does continue to use the 2013 drawing format, the AEC objects have been updated and are no longer recognized by the previous versions.
