Zombie Civil 3D General_Legal_Description_For_Parcels Report Rises Again

As most of you surveyors who use Civil 3D already know, the Genera_Legal_Description_For_Parcels report writer has been pretty much broken for quite a long time.  In this short blog post, I will show you how to bring it back from the dead to help you get a start on writing legals for Civil 3D parcel objects

These procedures have been tested on Civil 3D 2020 on Windows 10 with Internet Explorer installed.  This will not work in Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Firefox, only in IE

Infraworks 2020.2 Update is Available

Pipe Network Objects using the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS in Civil 3D 2020.1

In this video, Seiler Design Solutions presents the third in a series of videos featuring the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS Online and how the data can be used in Autodesk Products.

In this video, we will show you how you can create gravity pipe network Civil 3D data objects in Civil 3D 2020.1. We will connect to ArcGIS Online data that contain both pipe and structure layers with attributes we can map to standard Civil 3D pipe network attributes. We can fill in any missing data with default values allowing us to get a start in creating pipe networks for analysis or design.

Using Surface Snapshots in Civil 3D

At one time or another you may have opened a Civil 3D drawing sent to you and noticed, while viewing details of a surface in the Prospector tab of the Toolspace, what looks like a little camera icon next to the Definition section.  What does that little icon mean?

That icon stands for a surface snapshot, and in this article, I hope to help explain what a surface snapshot is and how it is used.

According to the Autodesk Civil 3D Help file:

Infraworks 2020 Model Builder Changes

With the 2020 release of Autodesk Infraworks, users who are subscribers to BIM360 Docs will notice a difference in the Model Builder for Infraworks.  Unlike the previous version, when creating a new model with the Model Builder, there is a conspicuous absence of the BIM360 Docs folders.

Tips and Tricks: Set Initial View for Infraworks Model

In Autodesk Infraworks, bookmarks are a great way to organize your model to show the various views you wish to portray when presenting it to project stakeholders.  However, upon opening the model, the default view reverts to the entire extents, forcing you to manually set your initial view each time by choosing your desired bookmark.

Well you can actually set our initial view to be whatever you choose, very easily, by following these simple steps:

Legal Descriptions Made Easier Using Civil 3D

When it comes to survey tasks, there is nothing quite as tedious as writing legal descriptions.  A legal description represents the meticulous documentation of dimensions that define a property boundary.  Since a legal description defines the “legally recognized” limits of a property, it MUST be free of errors.

This is where the tedious part comes in…
