Understanding the new Trim and Extend commands in AutoCAD 2021

Autodesk AutoCAD 2021 brings new functionality with both the Trim and Extend commands.

As opposed to previous versions, you no longer have to select a cutting object to trim to, saving you a few steps. This can become a problem, however, in crowded drawings as I will demonstrate in the linked video below. There are options to alleviate these issues and restore previous functionality either temporarily or permanently.
