Over the past year Autodesk has begun to develop a new help site for it’s product users. It’s easy to see that the Autodesk WikiHelp website is for it’s customers and by it’s customers. For those not familiar with the “wiki” concept, it’s an online format filled out by individuals that want to discuss certain topics. It differs from a blog as it’s normally categorized information discussing a topic in a “encyclopedia” kind of way.

On the Autodesk WikiHelp site not only do Autodesk employees post useful information, but software users produce help files (moderated/reviewed by Autodesk employees) that solve real world issues.

Once you dig in you’ll find many useful pages. As an example, as our regular readers may know, I do a lot of work in Revit.  I was glad to find so many resources available related to Revit here at the Revit help page:  http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Revit/enu/2012/Help

But it gets better, each software has it’s own category which includes help, tutorials, videos and more!   Here are a few popular options:

AutoCAD 2011: http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/AutoCAD/enu/2011

Revit 2012: http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Revit/enu/2012

Civil 3D: http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/AutoCAD_Civil_3D/enu/2012

Not sold yet? The community Wiki has:

  • 12,671 registered users
  • 22 products
  • 13,840 tags
  • 162,506 pages
  • 910 videos

…and it’s still growing.  It’s definitely worth the time to take a look at it and perhaps to even contribute yourself!
