When designing inside Civil 3D, you often need to use the existing surface data inside your design process, to ensure you’re taking into account the dirt that will have to be moved to transform the existing data into your finished design project. Using an alignment to create a surface profile can show you how that design drapes over the existing surface, and facilitate a well though out and efficient proposed design as well.  You can create a surface profile using any surface the alignment falls upon. In this particular video, we’ll walk through how to quickly create an surface profile along the centerline alignment of a road, and look at it inside a profile view.  Whether you’re creating a road corridor, creating a berm for a detention pond, or  just need to analyze data and visualize design, surface profiles and profile views in Civil 3D can help you define the geometry and create accurate and comprehensive designs for your projects. Check out this quick tutorial on how to use an alignment to create an existing surface profile and profile view to get started with your design.
