The updates to Inventor in the 2022 version are not limited to working within Inventor.  Last week I spoke about new additions for better interoperability with Revit, but they have made some improvements for interoperability with Fusion 360 as well.

I don’t know if you are aware of the benefits of being able to pass your Inventor part files to Fusion 360, but there are many.  Fusion 360 will allow you to use Generative Design to fine other, more cost effective ways to make your part.  You can use it to make it more lightweight, but still retain its strength where needed.  Many may only think that this is for additive manufacturing, but you can also use the design as a reference to make the part out of different materials or even using plate weldments instead of a machined part.

Fusion 360 also gives you the added benefit of having some manufacturing tools built into it.  You can program CNC machining within Fusion 360 as well as layout electronic boards.

To achieve this new increased interoperability, Inventor now has a new command on the Environments tab of the ribbon that lets you bypass the Desktop Connector.  This allows you to send your Inventor file directly to Fusion Team.  And with your subscription to the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, you not only get Fusion 360, but you get Fusion Team as well.

I hope you find this information helpful and this new feature helps with your manufacturing workflows.
