I would like to thank everyone who attended my class at the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors Institute 2022 on Autodesk Civil 3D Survey Database Essentials.

For those who may have missed attending, I led a session discussing the basics of using the Survey Database in Autodesk Civil 3D 2022 using both personal and corporate standards, as well as using the Wisconsin DOT standards and Civil 3D state-kit.  As promised, this post will contain links to the material and exercises I covered in class.

The Autodesk Civil 3D Survey Database is an external file set containing data collected in the field via various methods and imported to perform linework creation in the form of Survey Figures.  This data can then be organized via Survey Point Groups and Survey Queries to add these elements to a Civil 3D drawing as well as preserve the integrity of the data collected.  This added functionality can increase productivity creating existing topography and site conditions by many times over a manual point dump and connecting the points with polylines or feature lines.  With Survey Queries, you can add the correct types of points and line survey figures into an existing surface and have that tied and updated from the Survey Database.

If you missed the session and would like to learn more, please contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy to setup a demonstration or talk about classes and setup assistance to get you started incorporating this powerful tool.

As promised, below are links to download the data. I am including an workflow outline and my PowerPoint presentation in PDF format.  I am also including the exercise files I used in my demonstration.

Thank you again for all who attended the session.
